“Have ye not known? have ye not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth? It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.” Isaiah 40:21-22 KJV
As I began to think about this new year, new season, new days as it were, to engage our Lord Jesus, interact with Him, and in Him, the word “Unfolded” began to be in my heart. (Sharing how the Lord speaks is often difficult. Suddenly you know what you did not know before). As I thought about the word, the passage above came to mind. I could not quote all of it and did not remember where it was – so I had to go hunting. There it was in one of my favourite chapters in Isaiah.
The understanding that the heavens were “spread out” was interesting. My brother had said something to me about a year ago about this verse, and I thought about it then. Here it was again. The Lord began to work it in me. Everything He does is contained within a “unit” (for lack of a better expression). Then he unwraps it or unfolds it or spreads it out. As the universe – He first created it, and now He continually stretches it out, so we see and know more and more about it. (Hence, the scientist tell us it is getting larger and larger. Indeed it is).
He does that same with His Word. To those who will listen and hear, He begins with the printed page and then stretches it into a way of life. We are familiar with this, but there is much, much more. He has dimensions upon dimensions in each word read and received. It is a constant “unfolding” within us. We call this “revelation knowledge.” It is spoken of in Ephesians 1:17 as well as in other places. It is something He takes great delight in showing to those who will willingly see and hear.
Then there is the “unfolding” of Himself in our lives. When we were born in the natural, our physical natures had every possibility in us as our DNA and our life-experiences determined. We often say, “God has a plan for your life.” Well, no kidding! From conception on!
When we are born again, we too have all the presets that being a Son or Daughter of God gives us. We are heirs of God and co-heirs with Jesus Christ. The rest of our time in this dimension is spent “unfolding” what is implanted through His Spirit and the incorruptible seed. (1 Peter 1:23; 1 John 3:9)
So as we begin to embrace the dimensions of “unfolding” and being “stretched out” may our 2018 be a continual feast of becoming in Him. May our days be spent in continual openness allowing Him to “unfold” Himself through His Word and through us as well.
Just a light little Word for today. Thanks for reading!
